Location & Access

Getting the Most Out of Osaka

The smoothest way to spend 3-5 days in Osaka

Osaka's sights are close together, so the easiest plan is to use your stay as a base and head out in a different direction each day. Day one, go straight to Universal Studios Japan (from JR Taisho Station, 1 transfer at Nishikujo, about 18-22 minutes depending on the train); day two, shopping and food around Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori; day three, Osaka Castle and a walk around the area. With time to spare, add a day trip to Kyoto or Nara — the Kansai rail network is dense, so a same-day round trip is no problem. The biggest advantage of staying in Taisho Ward is that the JR Osaka Loop Line connects the whole city, which saves time whether you're heading to the airport or to the major sights.

Universal Studios Japan · 1 transfer, about 18-22 minutes (depending on the train)

Universal Studios Japan is a must in Osaka. From JR Taisho Station, take the JR Osaka Loop Line to Nishikujo and transfer once to the JR Yumesaki Line (Sakurajima Line) — about 18-22 minutes depending on the train, ¥200. Set off early to beat the crowds, and use the official app to check live wait times as you plan your route. Getting back is easy even after an evening in the park: head home to your own whole unit, rest up, and go again the next day.

How to explore Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori

Shinsaibashi-suji shopping street and Dotonbori are the heart of Osaka's shopping and food scene: drugstores, electronics, fashion and souvenirs all in one place, plus Dotonbori's takoyaki, okonomiyaki and ramen. It's just a few train stops from Taisho Ward and only gets livelier at night — when you're tired, hop on the train and drop your shopping off at home.

Getting around · Kansai Airport to Taisho Ward

There are several ways to get from Kansai International Airport (KIX) into central Osaka, and from there on to Taisho Ward. The main way to get around the city is the JR Osaka Loop Line, and Taisho Station is on the loop, so the major sights are easy to reach. An IC card (ICOCA) is the most convenient way to ride; depending on your itinerary, a sightseeing pass may also be worth considering.
